Saturday January 21st, 2017 1 Corinthians 1:10-18
For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (verse 18)
The Corinthians were an argumentative and quarrelsome lot. Paul chastised them for creating divisions in their congregations. Consider that within the circumstances of our lives, often nothing is as it appears to be. We misjudge others, some we do not confront at all when we should do exactly that, and everyone seems to be acting from their own idea of common sense.
Upholding the message of the cross, sustaining the significance of Jesus and his shed blood for all, will be heard as foolishness not only to the unsaved, but often also to Christians. It is our unique responsibility as followers of Christ to seek the name of Jesus and God’s perfect will in all our associations. This practice is the only way that dissension and strife will yield to form a healed and healing body of Christ. We can then fully envision the foolishness of the world and respond in power; the name of Jesus allows us to be fully aware of you and me as children of a living and loving, God.
Lord, thank you for your perfect message of Christ crucified as salvation for all. Help us to remember that each day we must renew our lives within that redemption. Amen. — VH
