Tuesday January 10th, 2017 Galatians 4:4-7
So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God. (verse 7)
Really think about this passage in which God calls us children of God. Think of God as a king and you as part of the royal family. Who has never dreamed of living in a palace and wearing a crown? Think of being loved so much that you have everything you ever needed or wanted.
Perhaps that’s where Disney’s themes of princes and princesses come from. They were borrowed from old stories and legends about kings and kingdoms, from fairy tales and cultural tales, of which there are many.
God’s kingdom is different. Not the same as Cinderella and the prince’s castle, but real in a very different way. Being God’s son or daughter, we are to act as one, even without the crown. We are asked to love one another, which is really hard sometimes, and we are to forgive, which can be even harder.
We’ll never be perfect, because we’re human and prone to missteps, but we can strive to be our best, with God’s help. Remember that Jesus already did the saving work for us, so that we could have that place.
God in heaven, help us to act as your sons and daughters and to share your love with those around us. Amen. — CRW
