Friday January 6th, 2017 Epiphany of Our Lord Matthew 2:1-12
And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road. (verse 12)
Most dreaming takes place within the deepest level of sleep, so the Magi must have slept well after the long journey to find the Christ child. I wonder what they said to each other when they awoke and realized that they had shared the same dream? Were they uncomfortable with their planned disobedience of the king’s request? Perhaps they were bewildered because their plans had been changed. I know that I get uneasy when my plans are changed.
One thing I know about the coming year is that I can’t be certain about what is ahead. I think that this is a gift. While it might be nice to know about that celebration or award, I’ll be happy to wait to hear about the car repair or loss.
God has promised to provide us with all that we need when we need it. We do not need to be afraid or to worry. God wants us to look to the future with hope.
Like the Magi, we can trust God to lead us safely in a new direction.
Loving God, calm our fears of what lies ahead. Help us to live day by day, knowing that you are always with us. Amen. — BLF
