Who Are You Going to Call?

As someone living in the USA, I am writing this in the midst of a presidential election cycle. EVERYBODY running is telling us they are the person who will make all things well and good. The ads are becoming nauseating.

We all have other people and things telling us the same thing. They are the person, business, item that is telling us that if we only trust them, they will make all things well and good. But the reality is that in our frail humanity we can never be that person for someone else. People will always let us down, even when they have the best intentions. And we will do the same for others. That’s life.

As we are coming to the end of the year, we are reminded by Hebrews that we are still in the Christmas season, a season that celebrates the birth of the Christ child. The birth of God’s only Son. The one we truly can trust to guide us through life and help us deal with whatever life gives us. The one we can truly trust in all things. The one who makes all things well and good.

Lord God, thank you for giving us the source to be trusted, no matter what, your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. — JKU
