Friday December 16th, 2016 Psalm 80:1-7,17-19
Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved. (verse 7)
I am sure that we have all heard someone say that when you hit rock bottom there is no way to go but up. Rock bottom may mean different things to different people but I am sure that when one hits rock bottom it is painful and that you feel a separation from God that leaves you feeling alone, abandoned, separated and possibly attacked. You feel that your sin is so great that even God has turned away.
However, our God is not a god of judgment but a god of blessing. This psalm is a prayer for restoration, blessing and salvation. It is a prayer that God will pick us up from our despair and lead us back to the light, where we will be saved and feel loved. God hears the cries of God’s people and will bring us back to loving grace from our sorrow and hardship. God’s face will shine on us and we will see the glory of God. Thanks be to God!
God of blessing, help me to always be very aware, That you will raise me from the depths of despair. Amen. — BZ
