Is It What You Expected?

While grocery shopping, my aunt’s twin boys begged her for a box of Rice Cream Flakes. The minute they got home, they sat at the table with a bowl of cereal, poured on the milk and stared at the cereal, waiting for the ice cream cone that always appeared in the commercials. Their expectations were not met.

John is in prison, where he begins to doubt that Jesus is the one he was expecting. He sends his disciples to ask Jesus if they should be expecting another. Jesus does not give the answer they are expecting. Jesus knows that John will believe if he sees that the Old Testament prophesies are being fulfilled.

Our lives are full of unplanned situations and prayers that are not answered in the way that we expect. Our faith tells us we need to accept whatever comes our way. One day, the reason for these twists in our lives will become clear, and we will understand that we were exactly where we were supposed to be.

Guiding God, help me follow wherever you lead me, even if it's not where I expect it to be. Amen. — BZ
