Saturday December 10th, 2016 James 5:7-10
Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. (verse 7)
Farmers are always waiting patiently for something-the right conditions for seeding, rain for the crop, the ripening of the crop, dry weather for harvest, and the list goes on. They have to be patient but they do not sit back peacefully, waiting for things to happen. They prepare the soil by tilling, plowing and removing rocks; they gather the right type of seed and make sure they have the right spacing and planting depth; they get the machinery ready to work, then they fertilize, spray and watch for pests. Their patient waiting means being active and working or they may lose their crops.
We are to wait patiently for the coming of the Lord, but while we are waiting, we are to be active. We are to stand firm, strengthen our hearts and love one another. We need to be working for the Lord and following in his steps until he comes. We do not want to lose what he is offering.
Coming Lord, while I wait patiently for your coming, help me to do everything that you want of me. Amen. — BZ
