Receiving the Kingdom

I suspect that if you’re reading this, you’re no longer a “little child.” So how do we “receive the kingdom of God” like one?

Let’s flip things around: if God wants us to be like little children, what does this say about the nature of God? I think it means that God has a deep and abiding love for us and yearns to have a relationship with us. Let me explain.

I’ve been watching our daughter and her husband with their first child. Every smile and giggle is shared with the world on Facebook. They are over the moon when it comes to their sweet little girl, and she does nothing to deserve it. The fact that she exists, the fruit of their love, that is enough.

If we are God’s creation, then surely God is just as full of love for us.

So yes, let’s be fully dependent on God, trusting that God will always be there for us, just like a little child.

Dear God, help us to abandon our independent adult attitudes and be as joyful children, trusting you'll be with us every step of the way. And help us to trust and believe in your great love for us. In Jesus' name. Amen. — AK
