Monday November 14th, 2016 Malachi 4:1-2
But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. (verse 2)
I represented our Eastern Synod at the annual convention of our companion synod, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Guyana. I spent one day with the youth. We began our fun day with devotions. One of the young ladies gave the message that day, and as she ended her message, she challenged us with “When people meet you, can they tell by your actions and your expression that you love your Lord?” I have never forgotten that message.
Malachi’s name means “my messenger.” In chapter 3, Malachi speaks about the messenger who will come to prepare the way for Jesus. Are we messengers? Do we show the love of Christ in our actions? We are called to be spokespersons for God, and our task, as is the task of our pastors, is to share God’s good news. Part of that good news is that, when life seems to be breaking apart, we can remember that the “sun of righteousness” will shine on those who fear God.
Let all of us be messengers-always share the good news of God in Christ, and revere God’s name.
Loving God, let us share God's love this great day, for God's love is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Amen. — DMF
