Good News

Many times in our lives we are given good news. The telephone sounds and the voice on the other end says, “I had a good doctor’s report.” We are both elated.

In our reading for today, Jesus has good news for us, as he had for his followers. Even though the temple will be destroyed, as well as our earthly bodies, we live surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who have died in Christ. Many will come to persecute us and arrest us, but this will give us the opportunity to witness for our love of God and not to worry, as Christ will give us the words to say. What great news that is! We, as those before us, have said the Nicene and Apostles’ Creeds, both of which speak of the coming of Christ to judge the living and the dead. We will gain our souls and be able to clap our hands and sing for joy for the love of God, just as all creation does: “Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy.” (Psalm 98:8)

Loving God, thank you for today. You give us so much good news. In your name, we pray. Amen. — DMF
