A Day of Thankfulness and Action

Today we remember those who died and say thank you to those who fought for freedom in both world wars and all conflicts since then. War is a terrible thing. It kills those fighting but also anyone caught in the crossfire.

Today people around the world are hoping and praying that God would come as Isaiah predicted because right now there are more refugees than ever before. In 2015 and 2016, both civilians and hospitals have been deliberately targeted. These are unacceptable practices perpetrated by not just ISIS but also western allies. The protection of the most vulnerable is one of the freedoms people gave their lives to uphold, but this is under attack.

Today we pray for peace, healing and love to rule the hearts of all people. It’s also a day to act, encourage governments to fulfill their promises to act within the limits of the Geneva Convention while engaging the “enemy”; show compassion for civilians; and protect those such as Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres, risking their lives serving in war zones.

Lord God, we thank you for those who bravely fought to defend the freedoms of all people. Help us to hear the cries of distress from around the world and guide us to answer their call. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. — RK
