The Traditions

Lucky for us, Paul was an apostle rather than a prophet because the description of “the lawless one” (verses 3-4) sounds a lot like some political candidates! Unfortunately, there are people like this in every point in history.

Paul gives us the recipe to avoid every age’s lawless ones-follow the traditions as handed down by the apostles. What were those traditions? Sharing your resources with each other and the needy, loving your neighbours near and far, and providing healing wherever and whenever we can. If we do these things, then we won’t have to worry about falling into the trap of “the lawless one” because we’ll be following the sinless one, Jesus Christ. Keeping our eyes on him helps us to focus our lives on things that really matter rather than the distractions “the lawless ones” would have us follow.

Devoted Messiah, help us to keep our eyes on you and those you want us to comfort. This world is full of distractions, so we need your strength and guidance to stay focused on the truth. Amen. — RK
