This is one of life’s most important lessons.
On Good Friday, we had a terrible ice storm in Ottawa and not many folks would venture out to attend church. However, a brave group of parishioners managed to arrive at worship along with our pastor and musicians. One stranger was found among us that morning. As we greeted him warmly, we found out that this was his first trip to Canada from Brazil and his first experience with ice and snow. His wet feet and light clothing affirmed this. Even though his work conference was completed and yes, he was alone, he wanted to spend a few days learning about our city and Canada. Also, he was determined to celebrate Holy Week and Easter Sunday with other Christians, and he sought out our Lutheran church because he came from one of the oldest Lutheran churches in Brazil.
Easter Sunday was much warmer with beautiful sunshine. Crowds of people attended worship and there he was again, enjoying the kindness of our welcoming community. We were blessed by this special visit of a fellow Christian and pray this stranger felt blessed by us.
Resurrected Saviour, we give you thanks for the saints gone before us. They taught us to be kind to one another. You have blessed us with this commandment. Amen. — BLSO
