When our infant grandson died, we had the assurance, because of our faith, that Pierce was now living with Jesus. We, on the other hand, are called to endure here on earth until we, too, can attain life with Jesus, a glorious future. How do I know this to be true? Verse 11 states, “The saying is sure,” or as the English Standard Version (ESV) states, “The saying is trustworthy.” I also claim and trust in Proverbs 3:5 as my touchstone: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”(ESV) In John 14:2 Jesus says, “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” (ESV) Again I know this scripture is true, a fact, and trustworthy.
I don’t know why Pierce was called home to be with the Lord, but I trust that Pierce dwells with Jesus, as I will one day.
What scripture or story reminds you that you, too, will reside with Jesus one day?
Help me to trust and claim your word, O Lord, because it is trustworthy. Amen. — AAH
