Thursday September 22nd, 2016 Jeremiah 32:1-3,6-15
For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land. (verse 15)
One of the greatest gifts we have in life is the gift of hope. When life is difficult and we face challenges that seem impossible to overcome, hope can pull us through the darkest of hours. Hope can be very powerful.
When Jeremiah buys land from his cousin, he is very careful with the paperwork. He makes sure there are signed copies of the transaction, and he carefully counts out the money in front of witnesses. For safekeeping, he takes the sealed deeds and puts them in an earthenware jar so that they will be protected for many years.
The Judeans needed to remain hopeful that they would return to their own land one day. God would restore them from their captivity and once again they would be free.
There is no mention that this would be an easy task for them. They would need to wait patiently until God was ready, but God gave them hope through Jeremiah. Their desire and expectations would be answered all in good time.
God of hope, when times are difficult in our lives, help us to remain hopeful that we may be delivered from our anguish and be restored to a place of harmony. Amen. — JR
