Share the Wealth

Last year, a co-worker and her husband went on a missionary trip to build homes and a high school for a community in Guatemala. For many years this couple has also sponsored a child in that community. This sponsorship allows this child to attend a private school that offers a wonderful education.

After learning about this trip, I began to wonder if I could afford to sponsor a child on a monthly basis. I knew that it would be a commitment I would have to make for many years. Finally, I decided it was important for my family to get involved. How could I possibly say no when there are so many things we can live without?

It is not a sin to be fortunate and have many comforts in life. It is, however, true that we cannot serve both God and wealth. We must be willing to use our gifts to serve God. We never know when we might be the answer to someone’s prayers by sharing our wealth with others.

Gracious Lord, may we always remember to share our wealth with others, no matter how great or small. Amen. — JR
