Lost and Found

Fifteen years ago today the world was shocked by planes flying into the twin towers of the World Trade Center. The news broadcast took over our TV screens. The crisis set into motion events that would shape our world for years, still today even. “9/11” forever changed us. Our innocence was lost. Our sense of safety was lost. Our tolerance for those who are different was lost.

When losing something becomes more than misplacing a physical object, these parables of the lost take on new meaning. Just as Jesus has always been searching for us, Jesus is again searching for us in a world that frightens us, that closes us off to our neighbour, that makes us feel unsafe.

Since 9/11, realities like terrorism, bombs and shootings have been part of our lives. Yet, from the beginning, Jesus has been finding us. Finding us in our fear and in our insecurity. Finding us not to make everything better, but to let us know that, despite a scary world, we are loved.

Jesus finds and restores our lost hope, just as he has always done.

Searching and finding Christ, grant us the faith to remember that we have been found by you. Amen. — EP
