Trust God!

In this text, God pronounces judgment upon those who would hurt God’s people by taking them into exile. What a wonderful set of words for those in our world who have been driven from their homes by wars and bombing. And there are so many who have had to flee from oppression and danger.

Through Jeremiah’s words, we are told that we have nothing to fear because the Lord our God is our protector. We can only imagine the feelings of hurt, anger, fear and hatred that are entrenched in the minds of those who have had to leave home, family and belongings in order to find a new home. God is saying to them: “It is I who speak in judgment against them.”

These words should be a confidence builder for us, right? Nevertheless, we humans tend to fall into fear whenever we become insecure. Fear is a sign of a lack of understanding and trust in our God who is above fear.

Rather than fear, let God, who has a deep love for us, help us when we fear earthly problems. Let God give us courage to free friends and others who have given into fear. For this is help on which we can rely.

Lord, help us to trust you in those difficult times of our daily life. Amen. — VH
