?the LORD your God will maintain with you the covenant loyalty that he swore to your ancestors; he will love you? (verse 12)
There is much said about fear today as the world deals with the problems of terror. As a matter of fact, much is achieved in the world by encouraging persons to fear enemies. In some leadership quests the creation and promotion of fear is encouraged in the hope of getting elected.
In the covenant God made with Israel, God promised the people, “I will be your God and you will be my people.” That was a source of comfort as they travelled through the wilderness. Oh, there were times when they lost themselves in their own fear that they had been abandoned. They even made gods for themselves. But their leader, Moses, brought them back to the covenant, and as a result, their fears were assuaged and they marched on in confidence.
Their example is a wonderful one, for whenever we are tempted to walk away from God, we are reminded that the God in whom we believe is a loving and faithful God who cares for us daily. God’s love is greater than any fear which lures us from God. We have nothing to fear.
Thank you, O God. I know that you are never far from me and I have no reason to fear. Amen. — VH
