A good example

This story from the life of Joseph is about facing temptation. Joseph was a very good servant in the house of Potiphar and rose quickly through the ranks of his employer. He became the second in command at a very difficult time and for a very difficult boss. He had won the respect of his boss. Confronted as he was in this story by Potiphar’s wife, Joseph came face to face with temptation.

The temptation Joseph faced was what master to serve, passion or God. Joseph knew that God was ultimately master over all things, so he chose to be strong in his faith; he resisted temptation. By doing so, he risked losing his position, or worse.

There are times when we are faced with the choice of whether to give in to temptation or not. It is so easy to fall into that tempting bit of sin. Are we able to overcome the temptation or do we succumb and forsake our principles of faith? Joseph made the correct choice.

We honour Joseph’s example whenever we resist temptation and stay with our God who loves us. Our God is an awesome God!

O God, we know you love us, give us the strength we need whenever we are faced with sin. Amen. — VH
