Just as I was about to sit down to write, I quickly glanced at my Facebook page. As usual it was filled with everything from photos and friend/family updates to quotes. Interestingly, a Marlo Thomas quote was the first that popped up and it read as follows: “There are two kinds of people in the world: givers and takers. The takers may eat better but the givers sleep better.”
In today’s world of social media, we are bombarded with information. Whether it is on the Internet, TV and radio, bus shelters and billboards or in newspapers, it can appear endless and often contradictory. We are surrounded by mixed messaging. Buy more, give more. It’s about you. It’s about others.
We have no choice but to filter it all and to choose which messages we will listen to. I chose the Thomas quote simply because it was basically the same message found in today’s verse, albeit with a modern twist. For many, that modern twist is what is needed to catch their attention, and that may not be a bad thing.
Regardless of where the message comes from, what is important is that we truly listen to it and live it.
Dear God, I pray that you remain with me as I strive to be one of the 'givers'. Amen. — DR
