Friday June 17th, 2016 Galatians 4:21-31
Now you, my friends, are children of the promise, like Isaac. (verse 28)
Paul was writing to the church in Galatia. The Galatians knew the story of Abraham and Sarah, how God had promised a child to them in spite of their old age. They knew Isaac was the son through whom God established Abraham’s family. These Gentile believers knew that the Jews were God’s chosen people through whom Jesus, the Messiah, had come to this earth.
Imagine the paradigm shift that had to occur in order for them to receive the truth that they, those who accepted God’s gift of grace through faith, were now also viewed as the “children of promise, like Isaac”! No longer were they pagans, outcasts, heathen; they were heirs of the promise just as Isaac was!
How many of us forget that we, like the believers in Galatia, are also children of the promise? We are the ones God is choosing to invest love and life in. We are the ones through whom God intends to share love with this world. We are treasured by our loving God just as Isaac was treasured by Abraham. Let us bask in the beauty and power of that fact! We belong. We are children of the promise!
Help us to accept your love and grace through faith and live in the awareness of our true identity. Amen. — KG
