Sing!

Suffering is a part of life. And there are many ways we suffer. Illness, broken relationships, financial hardships and death are just a few. One of the ways found in the Bible to make people feel better about their situation is to sing. Yes, sing. On the surface it sounds kind of ridiculous, because we usually sing only when we are happy and contented. Yet God’s whole creation sings every day: the sea, the fields, the trees?

Many in our study group, though not all, enjoy singing. Some simply feel they can’t sing. Yet, we’re told to sing as though no one is listening. Singing uplifts us, making us feel like we are at the top of the world. We sing praises for various occasions in our lives, especially in those times when something wonderful has happened to us and we just can’t hold it in. And sometimes the tunes coming out of our mouths are just something that is made up! It is a new song, using notes just like other songs and put together in a new way. It still sings, uplifting us and others.

What if we were to put that idea into the practice of sharing the good news of the gospel in the same way? Just belt it out!

Lord, help me to share the gospel with others in a new way today. Amen. — LGR
