Superman Never Made Any Money

I love a good superhero comic. Or a superhero movie. Or a superhero TV show. Gosh, give me some superhero toys and I’ll make up my own superhero story. There’s just something about superheroes.

Maybe it’s the fantasy. Maybe it’s the mythology. Maybe it’s the ultimate battle between good and evil, speaking into our very beings and drawing out our deepest and most sincere desires to do what is right and just. Or maybe I’m just immature and need to get out more often.

Whatever it is, we all have a little superhero in us. I don’t mean we can fly like a bird or repel bullets with our skin (really, please don’t try either of those) or even put on a technologically advanced iron suit and successfully privatize world peace (ok, you can try that one if you want), but I mean we are given power, strength and drive to do good, to have compassion and to selflessly serve.

This power, strength and drive come from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, graciously granted to us by God.

And with the Spirit, we are filled with love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, that we may boldly and confidently (and “superheroly”) live for others in love and grace. Thanks be to God!

God, your Spirit is what grants us life and love. Amen. — NF
