"The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one?" (verse 22)
As I get older, I can’t help but notice just how much I’ve grown to be like my parents (I shudder at the thought). And then, I see how much I’m like my siblings as well (more shuddering). Now, I look forward to seeing how my kids will eventually take after my wife and me (but really more just me) and I’ll chuckle to myself when I see them shudder at that realization (just like their dad).
It just makes sense though-that we’d be similar, not the inherent shuddering-I mean, we are family, after all.
As it is in God’s family. We all come from the same place, the one body of Christ, so it would make sense that we’ll share some similarities. It would be natural for us to see the world through similar lenses, have similar compassions, and love in a similar way. As we continue in our journey, we grow and learn by God’s grace to be more like Jesus.
This isn’t to be shuddered at, mind you, but rather something to be cherished and upheld. What a gift it is that we may share a common bond in Christ with a total stranger.
Lord, may the glory you gave us unite us in love and service. Amen. — NF
