Saturday April 9th, 2016 Acts 3:1-10
Peter looked intently at him, as did John? (verse 4)
I have a friend who can see when I am not telling the truth, or at least not the whole truth. She is able to call me on any baloney that I try to pass by her. It is both super annoying and super helpful at the same time. It is actually a great gift to my life. I think that something powerful happens when someone looks into our lives and puts their finger on something that we are trying to ignore or are oblivious to.
As Peter and John go up to the temple to pray, they do just this with the man who is being carried in on the mat. Instead of simply giving him money, which he was asking for, they address his underlying need. He can’t walk. He never could. Yet in the name of Jesus, the man is invited to find his healing. His life is changed and he runs around thanking and praising God.
Perhaps it is only when we are challenged to address the truth of ourselves that we can be open to finding healing in our lives. Where do you need the name of Jesus to be spoken into your life today?
Speak into our lives, O Lord, and summon out the people you created us to be. In Jesus' name. Amen. — KT
