“In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep?then God said, ‘Let there be’? and there was.” (Genesis 1:1-3)

John in his Gospel tells us Christ was there: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God?all things came into being through him.” (John 1:1,3)

Now Revelation, the last book of the story, a book filled with promise and hope. The writer sounds like Paul: “Grace to you and peace.” But he adds, “from him who is and who was and who is to come.”

About Jesus, the writer continues: Jesus?the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth?loves us ?freed us from our sins by his blood?made us to be a kingdom of priests serving his God and Father?is coming again.

He greeted her at the tomb, “Mary.” He was there before creation. In him all things come into being. He is Lord. He is coming again. Power and greatness, gentleness and mercy, saviour and friend come together in Jesus.

Almighty God, we thank and praise you for Jesus. Help us by your Spirit to tell your story in word and deed. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. — TS
