Monday March 14th, 2016 Habakkuk 3:2-15
O LORD, I have heard of your renown, and I stand in awe, O LORD, of your work. In our own time revive it; in our own time make it known; in wrath may you remember your mercy. (verse 2)
Have you ever experienced God in the way described in Habakkuk? Have you ever seen or experienced God in such a powerful way?
I wonder if people would experience faith or fear in the presence of God’s direct power. God’s brightness was like the sun. (verse 4) I wonder if I would shy away and close my eyes or revel in the amazing glory if I saw God so directly.
Mountaintop experiences are the way we sometimes describe our emotional and profound faith-lifting experiences. What would a Habakkuk experience look like? Imagine a time and place where the entire world and everything you saw was touched by God’s awesomeness, where God’s splendour was as bright as the sunrise.
Next time you watch a sunrise or find peace on the brightest of days, imagine God’s splendour in all that you see. Imagine God’s power brighter and stronger than the sun itself. Let that feeling dwell in you and inspire you; let it fuel your faith and devotion.
Lord, creator and sustainer of our faith and life, wow us with splendour; build our faith with wonder and amazement; encourage us with gifts of awesomeness in your power. Amen. — KNM
