How Did She Know?

A little girl said to her mother after Sunday school, “Mommy, I know that Jesus lives inside my heart. But how do I tell him I love him? Do you think that if I write, ‘I love you’ on a piece of paper and eat it that he’ll get it?”

That’s a cute story but I particularly like the part where the child says, “I know that Jesus lives in my heart.” How did she know that? Someone had taken the time to tell her, to show her, to help her to know and trust this wonderful blessing. Who have been the ones to help you to know?

In today’s reading the people come together to hear the word. It overwhelms them and they are encouraged to go and live that word with joy because, “the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (verse 10)

Likewise, God’s word is a gift to us to enliven, encourage and equip us. These daily devotions are a wonderful opportunity to enter into the Word and to have the living Word enter into us. I pray that as you read or hear today, you will have your joy renewed and increased.

Living Word, write your word in our hearts so that we would not be overwhelmed by the world, but would know your joy. Amen. — MH
