A front-runner in the race for prime minister was on the campaign trail with a hectic schedule. At a meet-and-greet supper he went through the line and was served one piece of chicken by the server. He asked if he could have a second piece. The woman said, “No. Only one piece per person.”
He became annoyed and trumpeted, “Do you know who I am? I’m the next Prime Minister of Canada!” The server looked at him and calmly replied, “Do you know who I am? I’m the lady who hands out the chicken.”
When asked who Jesus is, Peter declares that Jesus is the Christ. This knowledge and trust will give Peter courage and guidance throughout the rest of his life.
We join hearts and voices with Peter and people of faith throughout the ages in affirming our trust in Jesus as Christ. As we affirm this truth in our hearts, may God confirm the promise of forgiveness and the assurance of God’s guidance for all areas of our lives.
Lord Jesus, you are the Christ and in you we have our strength and confidence. Bring us courage to declare what we know and lead us in the certainty that not even the gates of Hades can prevail against your purpose. Amen. — MH
