Stand Up For God

Deborah and Barak led the Israelites to conquer an oppressor. As Christians, we are called to stand on the side of God and not on the side of greed, self-interest or injustice.

Our world is an oppressive place: governments refuse to honour promises made with aboriginal peoples; corporations destroy through harmful resource extraction practices; dominant cultures hold on to unearned power and privilege.

But God is at work in us. Our ELCIC committed to developing renewed relationships with Aboriginal peoples (1997), and promoting right and renewed relationships between non-indigenous and indigenous peoples (2011). Pope Francis preaches and practices respect and dignity for the poor and for the environment. The Canadian Ecumenical Anti-Racism Network’s resource Cracking Open White Identity to Transformation challenges a dominant white culture to engage in transformative, anti-racist thinking and action.

God, strengthen and lead us in the battle against greed, self-interest and injustice. Amen. — BW
