Happy to Dance

Sometimes before confirmation class one of the students would dance to the music on her iPod. Probably it wasn’t coming into confirmation class that created the desire to dance. The music she was listening to stirred her to motion. Some of the others wanted to hear the music as well so they too could join in the dance.

When God sets free those who are bound and returns refugees to their homeland, there is much joy. It creates an elation that seeks expression, whether in song, dance or in a merry spirit. So too, for us, when God brings us through difficult times of anxiety, depression, grief, feeling bound, driven or in need. As we are released from these trying things, we may feel a sense of gladness that finds expression in motion, music or a happy mood. As we come through such periods we learn first-hand of God’s saving, supporting and caring work for us. With that recognition we can grow in gratitude for our God who acts to bring us to better days and provides what we need along the way.

Thank you, God, for opening a path for us through difficulties, creating hope for better days ahead so that we praise you with a merry spirit. Amen. — JW-H
