Thursday December 24th, 2015 Colossians 3:12-17
As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. (verse 12)
For one Christmas program, the younger children were clothed in mittens and headwear made of white curly material along with their Christmas clothing in order to play the part of sheep. We dress for many circumstances in our lives. Workers put on various kinds of garments for the tasks they are doing. We dress up to attend certain functions, or put on equipment and clothing to participate in sports.
How we clothe our bodies can be significant for what we are doing. How we clothe our hearts is even more important for the living of our lives, and our place among God’s chosen and beloved people. Yet to put on compassion, humility, meekness and patience can be a challenge, even impossible, for us to accomplish by ourselves.
So we need help to gain a heart that is clothed with these beautiful qualities. The work of Jesus and the Holy Spirit are vital in forming our hearts and shaping our perspective so that we can become increasingly loving persons.
Having put on Christ in baptism, may divine grace form our hearts and minds that we become a reflection of him who clothed himself in flesh for us.
By your grace O God, clothe our hearts in compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. Amen. — JW-H
