Things to Come

I love to read. There are often times when one book from my favourite author foreshadows things that will happen in another book in the series. Little teasers to keep me reading and give me hope for the main character. I love when that happens, it’s an “aha” moment. If I were a cartoon, that is the moment a light bulb would go on over my head.

The Old Testament foreshadows what is to come all the time. In the midst of trials, hardships and exile in Babylon, God was comforting God’s people by letting them know that a Saviour was coming. Through Jeremiah, God was telling God’s people to be strong and have hope that Jesus, a descendant of David, would be coming to be just and righteous so that God’s people would be safe.

Having hope is important. It keeps us going when things get hard. Without hope, we have nothing. God gives us hope every day in the knowledge that Jesus died for our sins and we are forgiven.

God of compassion, we thank you for the hope you give us each day in the knowledge that we are safe and saved through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Amen. — GB
