Perfection

There is a new catch word used by people in service industries. As you give your menu order at a restaurant, the waiter or waitress often says the word “perfect.” The word perfect is a great word for them to use because it tells customers that they have placed their order completely, properly and makes those customers feel good. Yet, in the true sense of the word, nothing and no one on this earth is perfect in all respects. One year, I had eight jobs and 20 cars. None of those cars was perfect and none of those jobs was perfect. I was not a perfect driver, nor a perfect employee. For example, I worked for a fast food establishment and spilt two milkshakes on the district inspector for that franchise.

Jesus, on the other hand, is the epitome of perfection. We see that he is “holy, blameless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens” (verse 26) and we see the Son of man has “been made perfect forever.” (verse 28) In that perfection, we are blessed because, by believing in him, we become part of his perfection. Jesus sees perfectly into our hearts. He loves us perfectly with the Father and he brings us home in perfect justice.

Jesus, make us be perfect in you. Amen. — G/CW
