Wednesday October 7th, 2015 Joel 2:21-27
You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I, the LORD, am your God and there is no other. (verse 27)
Israel, God’s chosen people, suffered through difficult situations for many years-wars, famine, exile-because of the wrong choices they made. They were God’s people; surely God should protect them and show the world that they were special. At the right time, God again pulled Israel out of its destitute situation, not to show the world that Israel is God’s chosen people, but to show Israel that God is the Lord who brings salvation to God’s people.
When I completed my deaconess training, I was expecting my first placement to be in Alaska. I was sent to New Orleans. After 19 years, and several different ministries, I gave up. I said, “Lord, today I’m asking for a call and I’ll go wherever you send me.” That day I learned of a request for a deaconess in the Canadian Arctic. I knew immediately that it was my call. Everything fell smoothly into place, and in less than six months I had immigrated to Canada.
Sometimes we go through many trials and difficult situations before we learn that God alone is Lord of our life.
Lord Jesus Christ, you are our God. Live in us, that we may live always as yours alone. Amen. — JCH
