I Remember!

I remember it well: Palm Sunday, long ago; I was 3« years old, and I was baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Child of God! I didn’t know what it meant, I just knew it was an important event. I remember another Palm Sunday when, as a teenager, I “confirmed” my baptism. Now, after 54 years as a deaconess, I can look back and remember both the joys and sorrows of ministry. And I know that always, the God of our fathers and our mothers has been faithful to me.

Through Moses, God gave the Commandments to the Hebrews, instructing them: “The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.” It’s a partnership that God makes with us in the waters of baptism, with the sign of the cross of Christ and the seal of the Holy Spirit. We can love God because God’s Spirit works faith in us.

So even to old age, grey hairs (or no hair), or even dementia, we will remember, because the one and only living Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has chosen to abide in us-forever!

Oh my Lord, abide in me, so that I may abide in thee. Amen. — JCH
