Friday September 4th, 2015 Psalm 125
As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time on and forevermore. (verse 2)
Have you ever felt completely surrounded? My favourite feeling of being surrounded is wrapping up in a big warm blanket. I love to completely cover myself. I wrap everything up tightly, like a giant cocoon. And except for a hole to breathe and a small place to see I am utterly covered. In fact, so covered that even the slightest separation in the blanket feels like a wide open door on a cold day. I am so completely enveloped in comfort and warmth that absolutely every care melts away. Usually in that warmth and comfort I fall asleep.
The funny thing about that amazing warm place is that it ends. After a nap I’m usually so warm that I have to start relinquishing my blanket fortress. My body actually begins to crave the stimulation of the outside world. Slowly parts of me creep out of the blanket, testing the warmth of the world around. First a hand or foot, then more of my head, slowly I relinquish my total immersion in blanket. I emerge refreshed and ready. Refreshed by the comfort and warmth. Ready to face the day or the next part of what life has to offer.
Lord of all comfort, thank you for surrounding us with your amazing love, for protecting and renewing us. Amen. — KNM
