Blessed for Responsiblity

The oil of gladness, robes fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia. Wealth, opulence, luxury beyond compare. These images are used to bring about an image for us of God’s favour. But they come with the responsibility of service such as the responsibility found in the life of the king: holding equity as the symbol of power, loving fairness and holding it in higher regard than other personal interests.

Most of us today are not familiar with an earthly king. Dare we presume to hold ourselves to this same standard for eternal reward? Much as we try, the perfect king described will not be any of us, but we have instead God’s Son to win this reward on our behalf to share.

Loving God of majesty and glory, let us praise your holy power. Let us hold value in treating others with fairness and mercy. Open our hearts to share with others the gifts you bestow upon us. Help us to love your ways of service and accept the rewards of your kingdom. Amen. — RS
