The Faith of a Child

Many churches welcome young children to Holy Communion as Jesus was quick to welcome the little children. Imagine if adults took communion in the way that little children do. What if we ran down the aisle because we are so excited to receive this gift? What if we made sure we drank every last drop out of our glasses, not letting any go to waste? What if we asked for a big piece of bread, because we want more of Jesus? What if we put some of that big piece in our pocket, so we can enjoy communion again later, or take some to our friends?

The gift of Holy Communion is powerful. We believe that Christ is really and truly present in, with and under the bread and wine. We believe that in Holy Communion we receive the gifts of faith and forgiveness of sins. We believe that Holy Communion strengthens us for our lives. We believe that Holy Communion preserves us unto everlasting life. In this great mystery and gift, Jesus abides in us and we in Christ. It doesn’t get any better!

O God, thank you for the gift of Holy Communion. Lead me to your table, feed me with your love, and give me the faith of a child. Amen. — ANS
