What does a clean heart look like? Is it pumping out blood evenly throughout the body or are some arteries clogged? Does one gasp for air or walk sluggishly because of the weight on the heart? What is causing the clogs?
Lord, wash away the clogs, rinse them from my system: the clogs of indifference, of ignorance and intolerance, the clogs of impatience and self-indulgent behaviours, the clog of apathy toward the world around me, the clogs of loneliness, despair and fear, the clogs of untruths and self-pity.
Rinse my heart as you hold it gently in your hand, Lord. Then my heart will pump freely and your love will flow through my veins, knowing and feeling your presence within me in all that I am and all that I do.
A clean heart will be: a loving, sharing, tolerant heart, a welcoming, joyous, truthful heart, an empathic, listening, caring heart, a faithful heart, a believing heart.
So, “do not cast me from your presence?Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.” (verses 11-12) As my clean heart pumps within me, may I be mindful of those whose arteries are still clogged, wanting to be healed. Amen.
As my clean heart pumps within me, may I be merciful of those whose arteries are still clogged, wanting to be healed. Amen. — RC
