God’s Choosing

Have you ever wondered what it must have been like for David to become king of Israel? Can you imagine the adjustment going from being a shepherd-spending his days in the pasture with his flocks-to the palace with all its pressures and power? Though David failed at times, he is referred to as “a man after [God’s] own heart.” (Acts 13:22)

God knew David could lead the people of Israel. The days of humble work in the fields were not a deterrent to David’s ability to perform kingly duties. Perhaps it was precisely because of that previous, lowly vocation that David was able to reign with humility and reliance on God.

Just as God ordained David’s path in life, so God can be trusted to orchestrate events in our lives to lead us to the place of greatest fulfillment.

God, thank you that you can be trusted to lead us to where we will be most fulfilled and best influence our world. Amen. — KG
