To a Deeper Understanding

We in the ELCIC have become quite bruised and tender over the past few years. A few years ago, as I was greeting the worshippers on a Sunday morning, one man took my hand and said “Pastor, I’m going to leave the church if they go in direction A.” I shook his hand and offered my hand to the next parishioner. “If we don’t go in direction A, I am going to have to leave my church.” Two people, attending the same church, actually sharing the same hymnal, were leaving their worship experience with opposing views. Were they even in the same congregation?

We are being given new knowledge, new understandings into life and the process of creation every day. As we receive this new knowledge we continue to be supported and sustained by the One who created us. Life with God is to witness life’s mysteries unfold. Let us join with Paul and pray for new understanding.

Loving God, as you taught us the foundations, now teach us the wisdom that we might embrace your mystery as gift. Amen. — RDL
