Thursday July 9th, 2015 2 Samuel 6:1-5,12b-19
[David] distributed food among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women? Then all the people went back to their homes. (verse 19)
The congregation I am currently serving celebrates Holy Communion every Sunday. It is an important part of our weekly gathering. It is designed to build community. It also prescribes for us how we are to live our lives. We live our lives as the community of Christ. We come, we gather, we feed ourselves. Then we go home to celebrate the covenant God has made with us in our broader community. The real presence of Christ is found working in, with and through the earthly elements. As we extend the hospitality of the altar to our neighbours and friends, the real presence of Christ works in, with and through us as well.
It is in this real presence that we find the harmony to present a common message. We do not always agree with one another. There are times when I do not like some of my community members-especially when they are right. There is no time that I do not love them.
God of the kitchen, help us learn to live and work in harmony by learning how to be your real presence with one another, so that our neighbours feel one with us. Amen. — RDL
