Family Covenant

One thing that happens at Lutherlyn this time of year is family reunions. It’s a time for people to come together and reaffirm their place within the family. By their presence, these people have come to an agreement that they are indeed a part of this larger family and enjoy the benefits of sharing their lives with each other.

Our lesson for today may seem a bit different from others because it’s a history lesson, a retelling of the story of David becoming king. David has gathered the wider family of Abraham in one place for the purpose of making a holy agreement, a covenant. Because he was seen as God’s chosen, they accepted him as their ruler, a job he proved to be very good at, still being considered Israel’s greatest ruler today.

This story is a reminder that we, too, have a covenant with God and God’s people. We are reminded that we, too, are part of a larger family and that there are benefits to such an arrangement. While each of us has life struggles, we find the family at camp to be loving and caring. Remember, you, too, are part of the larger family.

Lord, help us to be one under your leadership so we may discover the joys of being part of your wider family. Amen. — LGR
