Sunday June 7th, 2015 2nd Sunday after Pentecost Mark 3:20-35
"Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother." (verse 35)
My youngest son’s first word was “Brutha.” He would toddle from room to room, calling, “Brutha, Brutha,” until his older brother would come and give him a hug. He still thinks the world of him. Family is the most important thing in his life.
We often think of family as our parents, children and siblings. But family is much broader than that. God gives us family that extends beyond our biological connections by sending us adopted families, step families, neighbour families, school families and church families. These God-created families provide us with physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual support.
God’s will is that we love one another. Everyone who cares for us is doing the will of God and becomes a member of God’s family for us–a brother, or sister, or mother. When we care for others, we are also doing the will of God, and we become members of God’s family for them. God’s will is that God’s family of love grows ever larger.
Nurturing God, thank you that your will is to care for us. Help us to care for others in return. Amen. — KDH
