Thursday May 21st, 2015 Acts 2:1-21
"Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o'clock in the morning."(verses 14-15)
Clearly, Peter had never been on a university campus the morning after a keg party. But you can understand people’s confusion. All that they knew was that these weirdos were speaking in bizarre languages.
But Peter quotes the prophet as a reminder, “?your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams?”
Visions and dreams. Even if they initially understood what they were saying, the crowd probably wouldn’t have been any more impressed. God’s vision for our lives and God’s dream for the world is often at odds with ours. God’s vision is creation, while we have an impulse to destroy. God’s dream is community, while we nurture our individual lives. God’s vision is love, while our vision is often selfishness. God’s dream is peace, while we create needless divisions.
What is your vision for your life? What is your dream? How do they connect with God’s vision and dream? God’s vision and dream includes us, and we will, one day, fully wake in God’s dream and fulfilled vision.
Holy God, may your dreams come true in us. Amen. — KP
