To Whom Do You Give Authority?

Have you ever noticed how freshly pruned branches still look healthy and alive, as if they are doing just fine on their own, but after a few days of being disconnected from the trunk, their source of life, they are visibly dying, becoming withered and ugly? I believe we are like that, too. When we disconnect ourselves from our source of life, our creator God, we become bitter, empty and lifeless.

We give authority to others, be it at election time, or to our parents, or through respect for civil governance. We also give authority over our lives to Jesus, or not. It is not a choice God makes, but a choice we make. God always loves us. When we continually make the choice to live for God, to give authority over our lives to the One who loves us and knows us more fully than we can imagine, we begin to see the many blessings God puts in our path, the blessings of loving relationships and joy in the moment.

Lord Jesus, take my life and make it yours. I shall live for you. Amen. — ML
