Saturday April 11th, 2015 1 John 1:1-2:2
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. (verse 5)
“God is light and in him there is no darkness.” I find this to be a profound proclamation in this season of Easter. For me, the text from 1 John recalls hints at what it must have been like for the first disciples that first week after Jesus’ resurrection. Confusion, rumours, sightings of the risen Christ-things must have seemed dark and then all of a sudden a brilliant light, a light to expose truth, a light to bring life, the light of promise fulfilled.
Light has a way of shattering the darkness in our lives as well. Job loss, death, illness, war, famine, all have the potential of covering us with profound darkness, and yet, in the midst of darkness we see God journeying with us, bringing light and hope which overshadows the darkness.
How wonderful it is to behold that light, the risen Saviour standing in our midst, in all things of life, raising us up and carrying us beyond the things that try to hold us down.
God of light, there is nothing you cannot penetrate and illuminate in our lives. Help us to see you clearly in our midst. Amen. — TLR
