Thursday April 9th, 2015 Acts 4:32-35
Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. (verse 32)
Families can be such a blessing, and they can also be a big crazy gathering of personalities and opinions. If the first Christian gathering of family had a reality TV show, it might have been called, “One Big Crazy Family.” These new followers of Christ, some Gentiles, some Jews, all having their own understanding of faith, God and scripture, were now living together as a whole group, or family; oh, the good, the ugly, the craziness of it all. Amazingly, Luke writes that they were of one heart and soul, holding and sharing everything in common.
Like our families and communities, it probably wasn’t all easy, and yet, it was all worth it, to come together in a place where they could all be who they were, to learn and to grow together, to challenge and to reconcile themselves to one another and the world.
As Easter people, we gather together in worship, learning and fellowship, and these gatherings help us rise daily to new life, new opportunities, new challenges and new graces.
God of the universe, help us to see you in one another and to embrace you in our midst. Amen. — TLR
